The first week of the dance reality show has come to a close and we can definitely say the creatives have raised the bar of quality and novelty this season

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 has started with a bang and we are eagerly waiting for the next episode to go on air. The level of difficulty, creativity and originality has convinced us that this season the contestants mean serious business. Almost everyone is at power with each other and a few even manage to take you by surprise.

Of course, like most reality shows there are lot of things that impressed us and a few that turned us off. So here’s our verdict on JDJ 7…

Things we liked:

Salman and Lauren

The idea of previous season contestants coming up with challenges that they themselves will demonstrate is an excellent way to showcase that the show doesn’t believe in impossible challenges. Of course it’s a treat to watch Salman Yusuf Khan and Lauren Gottileb shake a leg.

Madhuri’s experiment

It’s easy to sit on the judges’ panel and comment but difficult to walk a mile in the contestants’ shoes. Madhuri proved it that she has the caliber and the right to judge the show when she attempted the new dance style. Rumors suggest that she will continue the trend throughout the season.

Remo’s style

It’s true we were bored of seeing Remo in suits. The new look definitely complements his personality.

Ranvir Shorey

You cannot compare him to Manish Paul or Kapil Sharma, but Ranvir Shorey does a decent job at hosting. We believe that it will get keep getting better with every episode.

Palak

The idea behind getting Kiku Sharma’s female avatar – Palak as a contestant was novel. Apparently, a similar thing was done in Dancing with the Stars.

Outdoor performances

This season contestants will not only be performing on stage they will also be doing outdoor acts. In the first week, Mouni Roy, Purab Kohli and Karan Tacker performed outdoors. The level of difficulty is much more and hence we found it exciting and fresh.

Things we disliked

Drashti Dhami

She is a good actor, but hosting a show is certainly not her cup of tea. The actor seems lost and often misses her timing. There’s disconnect between her and Ranvir, which is quite evident. Guess Ms Dhami should just stick to her daily soap – Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon.

Madhuri Dixit’s style

It was disappointing to see Madhuri in her new avatar. The look did not suit her nor could the diva carry off the centre slit gown. Wethinks she should go back to her Indian avatar.

Jhooter

We saw something similar in Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan. It was called the Lie-o-meter. On Jhalak it is called Jhooter. Wethinks the show could really do away with that.

Sudesh Lehri’s comic act

Every time the comedian-actor comes on stage, Ranvir and Drashti get a headache and that’s exactly how we feel. It’s seems like a forced comic act and the makers should get rid of it immediately.

Judges’ signature lines

Last time it the judges’ signature comments after a brilliant performance were Perfect, Blockbuster performance and This is it but this season they’ve come up with new lines.

Madhuri – You killed it!

Remo – That’s how you roll!

Karan – Banging performance!

Frankly we didn’t like any of them and think they should really consider something new.

On the whole, this new season of JDJ in comparison with the previous years has out done itself. The concept, performances, contestants and the vision is fresh, fierce and fabulous.
