Exaggeration in daily soaps is understandable, but not to this level
Sony Pal’s new show Hamari Sister Didi is a doctor-nurse show. It’s a different version of Sanjay Dutt’s Munnabhai MBBS. However, we feel the makers went a little too far with this one.
Story
The show revolves around Amrita also known as Sister Didi (Pariva Pranati), who is a head nurse at Muskaan Hospital. The hospital was her husband Avinash’s (Hiten Tejwani) dream – he believed that a doctor’s duty does not end by just giving the patient medicines; care and love come first. And that’s the way Amrita continued treatment at the hospital even after his untimely death. Dr Karan (Bhanu Uday) is the new attendant in the hospital. The moment he enters, he is appalled at the functioning of the hospital. He tries to make changes, which obviously do not go down well with Amrita.
What HOT
It’s great to see Bhanu Uday of Special Squad fame back on the small screen. His performance is probably one of the few things that are working for the show. Extra brownie points for hiring a hot doctor. Avneet Kaur, who plays Amrita’s onscreen daughter, is a stellar actor. She emotes, reacts and delivers dialogues like a pro. Pariva Pranati, who plays the head nurse and is a mother of two kids does a good job; her onscreen equation with the kids actually make you believe that she is both a mother and friend to her children. Hiten Tejwani was a surprise package – something we liked.
What’s NOT
There are way too many bizarre and unbelievable situations and scenes in the show. Some of them are truly beyond belief. We know there are many hospitals that believe in patient care and pampering, but doing godh bharai (baby shower) in the hospital, or visiting patient’s mother-in-law and forcibly getting them to the hospital to mend bridges with a pregnant patient is going too far. The endless parties in the hospital make us wonder, who is really working? Talking from experience since my mother is a nurse, I guarantee that in no real hospital, do doctors or nurses have the time to breathe let alone organise parties for others. The makers could not get even the uniforms right. The uniform the nurses are wearing are just too tacky to come even close to authentic.
