![Gulmohar Grand TV review: Aakanksha Singh and Gaurav Chopra's new show tells an interesting tale]()
Star Plus’ new show is out of the ordinary and definitely a good choice for Sunday night viewing
Earlier Star Plus had come up with a show that revolved around the airline industry and their daily encounters; now their new show is about the hotel industry. This is not the first time we’ve come across a show that revolves around this hospitality industry, if you remember a few years back there was a show called Hotel Kingston on Star One, which was quite hatke and interesting. Let’s hope we’ll be able to say the same things about Gulmohar Grand.
Story
Gulmohar Grand is five star hotel and the 26 episode series is about the staff and guests of this luxurious hospitality establishment. The show narrates a different story every week, entwined in this is the secret of Annie (Aakanksha Singh) and Aniruddh’s (Gaurav Chopra) failed marriage. The owner of the hotel Mr Jaitley (Madan Joshi) is a frail and old man who is depressed about his lost daughter. Aniruddh is the Managing Director of the hotel and overlooks everything. His constant work keeps him away from his family and is the reason why his wife separated from him. Annie who is an Assistant in the Food and Beverages department has a secret no one knows. Playing the Head of Security is Ashim Gulathi as Neel Gujral. The first episode introduces all the characters and narrates the story of illegal consumption of alcohol by minors in the hotel premises and consequences of which the hotel suffers.
The Good
It’s a great change to see Aakanksha Singh back on TV after her last show Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha and her wedding. She looks refreshing and stunning, of course not so much in the uniform. There was never a doubt about Gaurav Chopra’s acting prowess, his Virat-inspired look is quite smart and charming. The show is extensively shot in Imperial Palace, a hotel in Royal Palms, Mumbai, which makes the hotel look quite plush. Since the show is a finite series, it will be interesting to see how they package the whole story in just 26 episodes. As for following the hotel industry policy goes, the show seems more or less accurate, but then again we should get it checked from a hotelier’s perspective to be more accurate.
The Bad
Somehow the name Gulmohar Grand doesn’t really strike the right chord with us for a five star hotel. The exclusive suite that was given to the Rathore family in the first episode looked like an executive room in a five star hotel. Suites are much bigger and grander than what they depicted in the show. The cleaning staff wearing an ear phone and working is something new. After staying in so many hotels, we’ve never seen that happen ever. The situation of guests complaining that their room was not cleaned needed better handling. Suggesting that they were in the room for three days without coming out even once seems bizarre. Every hotel has the policy to ask if they want the room cleaned or not, how come the hotel didn’t check on that.
Verdict
Apart from a few minor glitches here and there the show guarantees entertainment and definitely something different for ardent TV viewers.
